As Christmas continues to draw closer, people have begun to bring out their Christmas cds, dust them off, and let them play all through December. I have a question to ask as you let your favorite songs play. Have you really listened to the words? Oh, I don't just mean listen and sing along. I mean have you really listened and thought about what the words mean?
Like in the song, "Mary Did You Know?' did Mary really pause and think about the Child she was holding in her arms? Did she see Him for Who He was, the Son of God, or did she see Him as just as any other infant that needed to be tended to and looked after?
Or in the song 'The Little Drummer Boy,' where the author wrote the line about baby Jesus smiling at the drummer boy. Put yourself in the drummer boy's place. Jesus, King of Kings, smiling at you! How would you react to that?
The others songs that talk about angels visiting the shepards in the fields. God didn't send the angels to the rich people. The angels were sent to people like you and me. Ordinary people. What inspired these song writers to write about the things they did? Would you have written the songs the same way? Or would you have written them differently? And if so, what would you have done that was different?
